Position: Sr. Java Engineer

As a Sr. Java Engineer at Opticca, you'll help design and develop the next generation of features for our clients. You'll play a critical role in defining and building scalable application tools and frameworks, while working closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and peer developers to iteratively create solutions that meet business and technical requirements. You'll handle end-to-end development, estimate engineering efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and triage production issues.

Job Description

Being a Java Engineer at Opticca, skills you need to have

  • Solid proficiency in Java (5+ years)
  • Java 8, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Reactor/RxJava, Javascript, Groovy
  • Experience with Maven, Ant, AJAX, SOAP, Sprint
  • Programming languages - Python, Go, Ruby, sh(bash), etc.
  • Developed on Unix/Linux, Windows
  • Worked in an iterative or agile context

While not required, you should also have experience with

  • Databases - SQL Server, Oracle
  • Container-based architectures - Docker, Kubernetes
  • Microservices architectures, 12-factor apps, functional programming
  • Reactive (non-blocking) programming, RESTful API, Messaging API, CI/CD pipelines, TDD (Test Driven Development ) & BDD ( Behaviour Driven Development)
  • Google Web Toolkit, Websphere
  • JIRA, Crucible, Jenkins, Sonar, Confluence and/or Java IDE (IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, NetBeans)
  • Cloud platforms - GCP, AWS, Azure, Digital Ocean, etc.

General expectations

  • Working independently within your core technical skillset
  • Applying relevant good practice design and coding standards to your own work
  • Formulating designs for components and small solutions
  • Working with more senior developers to acquire ideas and feedback
  • Being self-driven in terms of quality and process
  • Identifying and escalating risks appropriately
  • Actively and constructively participating in delivery processes and meetings such as planning sessions, retrospectives, and reviews
  • Supporting and mentoring more junior developers
  • Engaging with and contributing to the wider practice outside of the immediate project

Technical expectations

  • Awareness of relevant design patterns
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms
  • Writing effective automated unit and integration tests
  • Understanding RESTful web services
  • Understanding core agile practices such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Being familiar with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • Comfortable using version control system such as Git
